What Holds You Back?
Learning to silence the inner Gremlin voices
By Betty Louise

How many times have we heard...we, as human beings, have unlimited potential. Enough already, eh? Well the reason it gets said so often is that we continue to ignore the truth of this and settle for the status quo. I say "enough settling already!" This article presents four points to assist you in bringing more of you forward so holding back becomes a foreign concept in your life. The world needs the full expression of YOU.

#1: Without awareness and consciousness, the subconscious (including Gremlins) runs your life from old patterns and messaging.

Our world moves at such a fast pace, we are often carrying on with our day without awareness that we have voices guiding our decisions and creating the way we view ourselves. From the Master Key System, a book written in the early 1900s on bringing more power into your life, "the conscious mind ought to be on duty during every waking hour. When the 'watchman' is 'off guard,’ or when its calm judgment is suspended, under a variety of circumstances, then the subconscious mind is unguarded and left open to suggestion from all sources." Some of these sources are negative phrases we have heard in our lives from parents, teachers, friends or others from your past. So imagine that you are going through your day, doing your job completely unaware that there is a force over your shoulder feeding you with information that not only doesn’t serve your work in the world, but limits your ability to see who you really are...the magnificent being who has a special and unique gift to share with the planet.
Practice suggestion: BECOME MORE CONSCIOUS- Dedicate yourself to 30 seconds of silence becoming aware of your body and thoughts daily. Three times a day...a total of 1-1/2 minutes!

#2: Find someone to verbalize your dreams and aspirations to...someone who believes and supports YOU.

Your dreams needs to surface in the world. You need to speak them so you hear yourself say them and feel what is happening in your body. Think of your ideas locked up inside of you...well, I hate to think of what kind of tension and illnesses may occur. Dreams are meant to be manifested, and that can not happen if the words never see the light of day. Will your dreams look exactly like you picture them? Maybe and maybe not...you will not know until you pursue it. What if, what if, what if... what if you were wildly successful with your ideas??? A note of caution...do not share your dreams with fearful people. Be discerning about who can hold big visions as some people will live in their own insecurities and need for safety. Practice suggestion: Examine who you have in your life with whom you can talk about your dreams and aspirations. Enroll that person(s) as an ally for you to practice speaking your big visions into the world. The more you say it...the more you are likely to take some action regarding moving toward it.

#3: Notice what the Gremlins (negative inner voices) are saying and change them to thoughts that will assist you in moving forward positively...what is the point of thinking negatively?

We are getting to the specifics of learning to remove obstacles creating a clear path toward a destiny that has joy, love, fun, etc. for your life. I hear clients say all the time "I don’t have control over (fill in the blank) in my life." Well guess what, we have total control over the words we feed ourselves. Imagine how you would feel if someone in the outside world said "You are so not up to that...so inadequate and incapable of making that happen." You would be pissed! "Who does she think she is?" might roll through your mind. And yet, we say those same words to ourselves all the time. We are working our little tails off to make it in this world and we have an inner army (in some cases) fighting us every step of the way. Call a cease fire on negative self talk and create some positive and motivating phrases.. For example...there is nothing wrong with me, I am being my unique self, My feelings are valid no matter what they are, I will give it my best shot and know that it will be okay, I am not afraid to take the risk...create some of your own that feel like something encouraging to hear. I guarantee you will begin to notice a difference in your outside world within a short period of time. Practice suggestion: Write down all the negative inner voice phrases you can identify. Underneath that write a positive phrase that counteracts it. When those negative voices appear, you are armed and ready with a replacement to positively moving forward in your life.

#4: Release fear in your mind and body.

When you feel the fear...such as "I will run out of money," "I am afraid of getting mugged," "I can’t tell him, I’m afraid he won’t like me," or whatever it is...stop and see where you are focusing. I can guarantee you that most of the time (I will boldly say 99%) you are living in the past or projecting out in the future. If you stop and look around and see what is going on right in the moment, you will realize that the fear is not about this present moment. I hate to have to be so blunt, but the real truth is that you may not make it to see your projected fear of the future. One of the few certainties in life is what is happening in the moment. Recognize that fear is part of human nature, and so it needs to be managed so as not to run your life. See what fear feels like in your body and begin to recognize the thoughts and body responses to fear. Once you see it clearly, then you can shift out of it. Do not let fear guide your decisions unless you want to live a life of safety and dissatisfaction. Releasing fear allows you to experience freedom and peace.
Practice suggestion: When the Gremlin voices become active, notice your body and its response to the thought. Experiment with changing body positions to an open relaxed position or get up and move (walk, dance, skip) some activity that will take your body out of the response of fear.

In summary, determine that you will tame your Gremlins and begin to explore and gather ways to do it. The same method may not work all the time so try different things. What steps will you try this week?

And finally, be loving and patient with yourself!

Blessings.
